What Could Be These New Mitsubishi Models Coming to Canada?

Despite carrying just four models, Mitsubishi managed to post record sales in Canada last year—up 62 percent from 2022—and momentum continues so far in 2024.

Speaking of which, the company today announced its “Momentum 2030” business plan that it previously shared with U.S. and Canadian dealers earlier this week. As the name implies, the plan starts immediately and runs through fiscal-year 2030.

“Over the past three years, Mitsubishi Motors in Canada has been building a foundation for the future,” President and CEO Kenji Harada said. “Along with our dealer partners, we have invested in our infrastructure and in our people, and changed our digital marketing strategy so that we’re ready to offer a better-than-ever customer experience. This work has made us ready for a more competitive future.”

Harada highlighted important steps taken by Mitsubishi Canada in 2023, such as adding the Port of Nanaimo as a second import hub, significantly expanding its Parts Distribution Centre and adding human resources across the country to support its dealers.

Several New Models on the Way

For shoppers, there’s plenty to look forward to. Momentum 2030 calls for a renewed, expanded and electrified product lineup including the brand’s first fully electric vehicle since the departure of the tiny i-MiEV.

Mitsubishi says two all-new vehicles will debut in market segments in which the company does not currently compete. Furthermore, a new or completely refreshed vehicle will debut each year between 2026 and 2030.

The only clue for now is the shadowy picture at the top of the page. The model in the upper left corner seems to be an electric SUV, while the one next to it has the low profile of a car. Right in the middle is what looks like the D:X Concept, a van-like off-roader that was unveiled at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show last fall. Is Mitsubishi seriously going to launch a vehicle like that in North America? That’d be awesome.

Curiously, we don’t see anything that would suggest the next-generation pickup that’s set to be jointly developed with Nissan and built in Mexico, as announced in April.

The Car Guide contacted Mitsubishi Canada to hopefully get more details including information about the fate of the Mirage and RVR. We’ll keep you posted.
