Nissan Versa Reportedly Entering Final Year, Altima Could Also Be Gone Soon

The Nissan Versa, one of the most affordable new vehicles in Canada, will be discontinued after the 2025 model year.

That’s according to a report from Automotive News, citing people familiar with the automaker’s plans. AutoForecast Solutions even suggests production of the Versa will end in April of next year.

When you think about it, such a move doesn’t make any sense. Canadian sales are up a whopping 107 percent through the first half of 2024 compared with the same period in 2023, helped by inflation and high interest rates that are forcing many shoppers to turn to smaller and cheaper vehicles.

The subcompact sedan, which was updated last year, currently retails from $23,094 including freight and PDI. The lowest-priced Nissan car following the Versa’s departure will be the compact Sentra, which starts at $25,144 and is the third-best-selling model in the lineup behind the Rogue and Kicks crossovers.

Alternatively, customers on a tight budget can go with the completely redesigned 2025 Kicks. Pricing has yet to be announced, but considering the increased size and power, it should cost significantly more than the outgoing 2024 model ($25,124).

Also according to Automotive News, the Altima midsize sedan will cease production in Canton, Mississippi after the 2026 model year, joining the aforementioned Versa as well as the larger Maxima that was axed in 2023.

Nissan is reportedly still undecided about a new generation. Should the Altima come back, it will likely be electrified to some extent—hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric.

In related news, Nissan’s electric hatchback, the LEAF, is returning for 2025 with zero changes. As previously reported, it is due to be replaced for 2026 by a small electric crossover slotting below the Ariya.
