Watch: Modified Hyundai IONIQ 5 N Climbs Up Pikes Peak in Record Time

Published on August 9, 2024 in Buzz by The Car Guide

Hey, how about kicking off the weekend on a 4,302-metre-high note with a cool 10-minute POV video starring a modified Hyundai IONIQ 5 N?

As you know, the latest edition of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb a.k.a. The Race to the Clouds took place in June. Driver Dani Sordo pushed an IONIQ 5 N Time Attack Special to the summit in a time of 9 minutes and 30 seconds, setting a record for modified electric crossovers.

With changing road and weather conditions, no fewer than 156 turns and zero margin for error on the cliffside, racing to the top demands tremendous skills, experience and nerves of steel.

Here’s what Sordo’s feat looked like from multiple angles, including one from the front splitter which makes for a fantastic view:

Impressive, isn’t it?

As for the standard IONIQ 5 N, The Car Guide’s Gabriel Gélinas took it for a spin in South Korea last fall and said this EV was the closest thing to an ICE-powered sports car he’s ever driven. Don’t miss his detailed review.

According to Hyundai Canada, only 400 units of the new IONIQ 5 N will be available in the first year (2025 model). Pricing starts at $78,199 plus freight and PDI of $1,950. It’s Hyundai’s most expensive vehicle ever and more than $15,000 above the price of an IONIQ 5 Preferred Long Range AWD equipped with the Ultimate Package.
