2025 Toyota GR Supra Loses Affordable 4-Cylinder Engine

Published on August 26, 2024 in News by Guillaume Rivard

Sports car enthusiasts banking on the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine to get their hands on a more affordable Toyota GR Supra out of the factory will be disappointed: only the 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine remains in the lineup for 2025.

The former, which delivered 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, was available exclusively with the eight-speed automatic transmission, remember. The latter, packing 382 ponies and 369 lb-ft of torque, can also be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, making for a fantastic combo.

There are no other changes for 2025, mind you. No upgrades or special edition like last year. Once again, the price is the same regardless if you go automatic or manual: the 2025 GR Supra 3.0 carries a base MSRP of $69,685 either way, which is $85 above the outgoing model’s sticker.

The four-cylinder engine in 2.0 models used to save customers more than $11,000 before tax.

The list of standard-equipped performance features includes Launch Control, the Hairpin+ function for increased agility in tight corners, an adaptive variable suspension, front strut tower bracing, an active rear sport differential and four-piston Brembo brakes on the front wheels. The 19-inch frozen gunmetal rims are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Meanwhile, the sporty cabin puts drivers in 14-way power-adjustable seats with leather upholstery.  The 8.8-inch digital gauge instrument cluster is anchored by a 3D tachometer, and there’s a similarly sized touchscreen over on the centre stack.

The Toyota GR Supra’s main competitor, the twin-turbo, V6-powered Nissan Z, also boasts little change for 2025. However, it continues to prove more potent (400 hp or 420 hp depending on the trim level) and a lot cheaper (MSRP starting at just over $50,000).
