Ariel E-Nomad is the Coolest EV You’ll See Today

Published on August 29, 2024 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

If you’re familiar with the Ariel Atom, you probably know that there’s an off-road variant of the funky little British kart called Nomad. The latter benefited from a redesign this summer, and guess what? The company may soon be offering an electric option, too.

The Ariel E-Nomad is just a concept for now, but it’s the kind of battery-powered ride that we’d totally love to take for a spin given its outlandish design and unique driving experience—not unlike the Volkswagen ID. Buggy that never hit the market or the more recent Myers Manx 2.0.

Replacing the standard 2.3-litre turbo-four engine is a Borg Warner electric motor housed together with a single-speed transmission and inverter. Delivering 281 horsepower and weighing no more than 1,975 lbs, the E-Nomad accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

The motor draws energy from a 41kWh Rockfort Engineering battery mounted vertically behind the seats. Maximum range is estimated at 240 km based on the WLTP test cycle, which likely means around 200 km by North American standards. That’s ample enough to play in the woods or the mountain for an hour or two.

It’s also worth noting that the body panels are made from a new plant-based composite material and contribute to increased aerodynamic efficiency.

The Ariel E-Nomad will make its official debut on September 4 at the 2024 Cenex Expo in the U.K. Will it enter production afterwards? That depends on customer interest. Remember, the brand’s gas-powered Atom and Nomad are also sold on this side of the Atlantic through Ariel North America, based in Virginia.
