38,000 GM Vehicles Recalled in Canada Over Braking Issue
General Motors has announced a safety recall on more than 38,000 vehicles in Canada due to an electronic issue that involves the braking system.
In some cases, if the brake fluid level drops below the minimum threshold, a software problem could cause the warning lamp not to turn on. The driver wouldn’t be aware that the brake fluid level is low and that braking power could be reduced, thus increasing the risk of a crash.

Affected models include the 2023-2024 Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon as well as the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
No visit to a dealership is necessary, GM says, since the remedy is a software update to the electronic brake control module that can be done over the air. Owners who prefer to have the update performed by a dealer are free to schedule an appointment.
Earlier this year, nearly half a million GM vehicles in Canada were hit by two separate recalls, including 2020-2023 Silverado and Sierra pickups whose tailgate could accidentally open due to water infiltration, plus multiple 2020-2024 Buick, Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac models with potentially malfunctioning lower beam headlamps and daytime running lamps.
Owners can visit the GM Recall and Warranty Centre to find out if their vehicle might experience one of the issues described above.
