The Best Electric SUVs and Crossovers Over $50,000 in 2025

Considering the growing number and the variety of electric SUVs and crossovers now on sale in Canada, The Car Guide has chosen to split them up by price so you can make a decision based on your budget.

Then, looking at all the models available on the market with a starting price of more than $50,000, our team has identified the ones that represent the best buys for 2025.

1. Kia EV9

The Kia EV9 has made quite a name for itself in the electric SUV segment, earning the top spot on our list after becoming the first of its kind to offer three rows of seats at a relatively affordable price. Available with two different batteries (76.1 or 99.8 kWh), the vehicle's range varies from 370 to 489 km depending on the trim level. Light and Wind models come with rear-wheel drive, while Land, Premium and GT-Line models boast all-wheel drive and are therefore best suited to our winters.

That being said, we were pleasantly surprised by the RWD models when fitted with good winter tires. Delivering either 201 or 215 horsepower, they obviously prove less lively under acceleration, especially when loaded with passengers and cargo. However, if you’re not looking for blazing acceleration, these cheaper EV9s are well worth considering.

We also really like the interior, generous space and excellent ride quality, which are invaluable assets for families looking for a practical, quiet and ergonomic vehicle. For all these reasons, we consider the EV9 to be the best buy in the segment for 2025. That is, until the Hyundai IONIQ 9 arrives.

2. Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6

Despite being dethroned by the EV9, these two Korean cousins are still excellent buys. They are very similar in terms of range and performance.

For 2025, the IONIQ 5's battery capacity has increased to 84 kWh, designers have made a few cosmetic tweaks, and a rear window wiper is finally included, addressing one of the main issues with Hyundai’s EV. At Kia, the EV6 is also refreshed and equipped with that same battery, not to mention an updated multimedia system and a built-in NACS port giving direct access to Tesla's fast-charging stations.

The main difference this year is the introduction of the high-performance Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and the elimination of the Kia EV6 GT in Canada. In addition, the IONIQ 5 offers more passenger space, particularly headroom, which is definitely something to keep in mind for families.

Other than that, these are two very competent electric crossovers that deliver good performance in summer and winter alike, as well as a bit more than 500 km of range in ideal conditions. Their remarkable fast charging capability (up to 240 kW) is also great for regaining a lot of range in a short amount of time.

3. Chevrolet Blazer EV

Following a chaotic launch and a revision of the electrical system, the Blazer EV now appears to be positioned for success. This vehicle stands out with a spacious interior and comfortable ride.

As always with GM, the multimedia system interface is well thought out, and physical buttons under the screen ensure fewer distractions while driving. Our main complaint is the lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which many customers typically look for. Instead, Chevrolet has opted for an Android-based native system with Google built-in.

As for performance, you have a choice of FWD, RWD and AWD, with output anywhere between 220 and 615 horsepower (the latter is SS trim). Maximum range of 538 km is achieved in RWD configuration.
