Porsche to End Production of Gas-Powered 718 Boxster and Cayman This Fall
Already retired in Europe (except for select, limited-run models), the Porsche 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will soon end production for other markets, too. In fact, they only have a few months left.
More specifically, the final units will roll off the line in Zuffenhausen this October, as Porsche Cars North America’s head of Product Communications, Frank Wiesmann, told Motor1 this week.

In 2024, their last full year of production, the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman increased their global sales by approximately 15 percent from the previous year. In Canada, the former even jumped nearly 50 percent to 502 units (versus 328 for the coupe). Both achieved significant gains during the first quarter of 2025.
As we all know, the next chapter will be fully electric, even though Porsche has decided to take a slower approach in its EV transition than initially planned. Development of the future battery-powered 718 models is far from finished, mind you. CEO Oliver Blume this week said they’ll arrive in the “medium term,” adding that they’ll be “even more dynamic, even more powerful, with a pure driving experience.” If you can believe that.
In short, the gasoline-burning 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will not continue to be sold alongside their electric successors, as the Macan will do with the Macan EV until next year (although an all-new compact SUV could arrive by the end of the decade). The Cayenne, meanwhile, will stick around well beyond 2030, even if Porsche adds an electric twin in a couple of years.
Canadians will therefore be unable to order a new Boxster or Cayman for some time. And if the next-generation, zero-emission cars don't quite live up to expectations, watch out: Porsche's chief financial officer, Lutz Meschke, has previously hinted at the possibility of the originally planned all-electric vehicles having a hybrid drive or a combustion engine.
