Next Gymkhana Star is This 670-Horsepower Subaru Brat

Hoonigan, the company founded by the late Ken Block, is almost ready to release a new video in the Gymkhana series. At the 2025 SEMA Show, which opened Tuesday in Las Vegas, they unveiled the bonkers, jaw-dropping vehicle that will be driven by Travis Pastrana.

Called “Brataroo 9500 Turbo,” it’s a Subaru Brat that was radically transformed by Vermont SportsCar (VSC). The new widebody design, entirely custom-made from carbon fibre, was created by Khyzyl Saleem, known as "The Kyza" on social media. It incorporates aerodynamic elements similar to those of the incredible 1983 Subaru GL Wagon a.k.a. "Family Huckster" that starred in previous videos.

The two front fenders feature active louvers that pivot forward or back to control front aero balance during jumps. Obviously, one of the most striking additions is the gigantic, fully adjustable rear wing. It actually comes in two variants: a larger one that generates more downforce and a smaller wing for more dynamic performance.

By the way, the HVAC controls have been repurposed for the Brataroo—they’re now used to adjust the active aero bits.

As for the engine, it's a 2.0-litre flat-four built in-house by VSC and turbocharged using unspecified hardware. We know it can rev up to 9,500 rpm, and Hoonigan claims that output and torque amount to 670 hp and 680 lb-ft, respectively. All of that insane power is distributed to all four wheels via a Sadev transmission.

“This Brat's completely unhinged—in the best way possible,” Pastrana said. “It’s got the soul of a vintage Subaru with the tech to do things no Gymkhana car has ever done. Every part of it is designed to take abuse, fly big and come back for more. It’s hands down the craziest Gymkhana car we’ve ever built.”

That says it all. The new Gymkhana video, shot in Australia, will be released in early December, and The Car Guide will be sure to present it to you. Stay tuned.
