The original Volkswagen Golf GTI was launched in 1975, and 45 years later a new, eighth-generation model has arrived. While the world premiere will officially take place at the 2020 Geneva Auto Show next week, the German automaker today gave us our first full look at the car.

Obviously, the exterior and interior design is quite similar to that of the new 2022 Golf, with a few distinctive features such as the LED strip connecting the headlights, the fog lights integrated into sections of the honeycomb grille and stylish wheels up to 19 inches in size.

However, the most important change in our opinion can be found under the hood: the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine now produces 241 horsepower (+13) and 273 pound-feet of torque (+15). The six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch transmissions both return.

Admire the 2022 Volkswagen Golf GTI in our photo gallery above and come back on March 3 to get more details and pictures!
