Are you familiar with the AMC Gremlin? Penned by car designer Richard A. Teague, it was introduced on April 1st, 1970—no joke—and became one of the first American compact cars on the market.

Its controversial look puzzled many customers, especially the rear end which seemed to have been accidentally cut off during the assembly process. Yet, more than 670,000 units were sold in North America until the car’s demise in 1978.
