As we saw with the Top 10 best-selling cars in the first half of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has been a disaster for the auto industry. The 648,487 new light-duty vehicles sold across the country represent a massive drop of 34.1 percent from the same period in 2019.
That being said, it’s interesting to note that utility vehicles and especially pickup trucks have kept increasing their market shares. Together, these models now account for 78.6 percent of total sales, up from 73 percent a year ago.
