Hyundai Elantra 
Hyundai’s family of compacts is getting bigger. First, the Elantra sedan was unveiled, followed by the very roomy hatchback (GT) and a coupe with rather dynamic lines. Regardless of the body type, there’s but one engine: a 1.8L four-cylinder developing a respectable 145 horsepower. The manual and automatic transmissions are both six-speeds, and the list of equipment is impressive for the price.

- Heaps of equipment for the price
- Plenty of cargo space (sedan and GT)
- Modern style, inside and out
- Heated seats, even in back!
Cons
- Not the most fun to drive in the city
- Short on power
- Noisy suspension on bumpy roads
- Limited head room in back (sedan)
