Land Rover Claims Fastest SUV Crown

Most SUV buyers look at specific criteria when choosing their next vehicle: size, comfort, number of seats, safety systems, off-road capabilities... However, those of you who look at Nürburgring lap times to select which car to buy will be happy to know that a new vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover's Special Division, the Range Rover SVR, just claimed the title of ''Fastest SUV around the Green Hell'', with a time of 8 minutes and 14 seconds.

To put things in perspective, here are some cars that are now slower around the track than this sport utility vehicle: the 2010 Camaro SS (8:20), the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 (8:22), the Acura NSX (8:16) and the BMW 1 Series M (8:15).

While the official specifications have not been unveiled, we know that the Range Rover SVR will be powered by a supercharged 5 litre V8 with 550 horsepower under its hood.

According to the manufacturer, even if the SVR can embarrass true sport cars on a track, it is still a Land Rover, with unmatched comfort and off-road capabilities: it still comes with a two-speed transfer case and an 85 cm fording depth.

We should know more about this new Range Rover before it officially comes out, sometime in 2015.
