A Jaguar SUV Named… F-Pace?

It’s no secret anymore: Every manufacturer is trying to get on the SUV/Crossover bandwagon. From affordable vehicle manufacturers to the richest, most luxurious automaker, everyone wants to be part of this segment. Those who don’t have one yet are actively working to create one, and Jaguar is one of them.

The English manufacturer recently unveiled a teaser image of its upcoming crossover; we can see a taillight and part of its bumper. However, the aspect that really got our attention was the badge prominently placed on the rear panel: F-Pace.

When asked about this name at the Detroit Auto Show, Ian Callum, stylistic director for Jaguar, agreed to share some details on the upcoming vehicle and its name.

First of all, an alphanumeric combination was rejected outright since, according to him, a name has to have style and character. The X letter was toyed with for a time, but was ultimately scrapped since the X-Type already has a bit of a reputation at Jaguar…

Mr. Callum also said that creating an SUV was difficult for him since he was much more used to building sports cars and sporty sedans. However, he is happy with the result, and thinks that we will appreciate the vehicle’s lines. He did not try to make the F-Pace as roomy and space-efficient as possible; instead he was more concerned with making it look like a proper Jaguar.

The manufacturer says that we will see the F-Pace on the road in 2016, so expect an official launch later this year.
