Here Is The Ford GT That Will Race At Le Mans

When Ford announced they were launching a new Ford GT, one thing was clear: yes, Dearborn’s supercar would be legal on the road, but it was clearly made to go racing. We were simply waiting to see when and where.

Ford just unveiled their racing GT and their 2016 calendar. The car will race in several endurance series throughout the world, most notably the 24 Hours of Le Mans (which will coincide well with the 60th anniversary of the original GT40’s win, in which they finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd, humiliating Ferrari in the process).

Since it’s a race car, the manufacturer doesn’t want to tell us exactly what technologies lurk underneath its skin. However, we know that the car has been built in partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing (which has won a lot of endurance races).

Just like the road-going version, a twin-turbo Ecoboost 3.5-litre V6 engine is used to power the car.

We will see the racing GT for the first time at the Rolex 24, in Daytona. It will then go on to race in the LM GTE Pro class, before 4 cars compete in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans.
