Last week, Tesla unveiled their latest product: the Powerwall 2.0, an update on their wall-mounted battery pack charged with the task of powering homes in the future.

The new Powerwall 2.0 now has a capacity of 14 kWh, which is double what the old one had. According to Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, this battery can power a four-bedroom house for 24 hours. For more energy, you can even install a series of Powerwall 2.0 units.

Tesla will sell this battery for USD$5,500, and installations should start in the U.S. in December.

The other interesting news is about Solar City, a company that Tesla is negotiations to buy. They build solar panels that, if used in conjunction with the Powerwall, should enable you to go completely off the grid. They just announced a new type of panel made to look like regular roof tiling so as not to look too out of place. M. Musk also proved that they were more solid than the old ones.

This development is another step in Tesla’s long-term plan to provide free electricity for both cars and homes.
