Audi R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition: Now with Lasers!

Published on November 7, 2016 in Los Angeles by Frédérick Boucher-Gaulin

Audi has been hard at work upgrading their car’s lighting system: instead of installing simple LEDs (or antiquated light bulbs) in their front assembly, the German manufacturer recently launched a technology that comes from the future: they will light the road in front of their car with lasers!

This isn’t the first time they showcased this feature. Europeans could get their hands on the R8 LMX, a limited-edition supercar with laser headlights. However, because of North-American regulations, the car couldn’t be sold here.

Audi didn’t abandon the idea, though: with the R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition, laser headlights are back… and they are now legal in North America!

Compared to regular LEDs, the laser headlights consume less energy, are more intense and can light up the road about 600 metres ahead.

The R8 V10 Plus Exclusive Edition will be showcased at the Los Angeles Auto Show and should cost around USD$230,000… In case you want one.
