2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA: Sorry, All Sold Out
The limited-edition STI Type RA was on display at the Toronto Auto Show, but don’t look for one on dealer lots.
Only 75 units were earmarked for the Canadian market, and according to Subaru Canada, they were quickly scooped up by STI enthusiasts, and perhaps collectors. This despite the car’s staggering MSRP of $57,900 before freight and delivery charges.

The Type RA, which stands for Record Attempt, pays tribute to the STI specially developed to set a lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife race track in Germany. That car achieved a time of 6:57.5, faster than any other four-door sedan. It also achieved record lap times at the Isle of Man TT and the Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb.
The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA received a weight reduction, thanks to the addition of a carbon fibre roof, the removal of the spare tire and the installation of lightweight, 19-inch BBS alloys. Engine modifications include a new cold air intake, a retuned ECU and a high-flow performance exhaust, raising output slightly from 305 to 310 horsepower. The Type RA also gets Bilstein STI dampers and a reprogrammed stability control system.
Three exterior paint colours are offered, including WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl. The car also receives red pinstripes and gold-finish wheels. Inside, the Type RA features Recaro performance front seats, red contrast stitching, a steering wheel wrapped in Ultrasuede and a numbered centre console plaque.
Those still looking for a limited-edition Subie can try their luck on a 2018 Subaru BRZ tS.
