A Special Edition Toyota 86 is Expected for 2019
The Toyota 86, alongside its twin sister, the Subaru BRZ, remains, to this day, one of the most focused driver’s cars currently available, even if many enthusiasts complain about its “lack” of power.
It has Enough of it
If you want our honest opinion, we believe the Toyota 86 doesn’t need a more powerful engine. The car makes up for it with a light and playful rear-wheel drive chassis, impeccable road manners and a fun to drive factor that’s hard to ignore, all at an affordable price.

For 2019, the car remains generally unchanged. It’s still powered by a 2.0-litre flat four good for 205 horsepower, but Toyota nevertheless had a bit of fun with its little coupe with the addition of this TRD Special Edition model which, according to the carmaker, will only be available to 1,418 lucky owners. Promising “enhanced performance”, the TRD Toyota 86’s driving dynamics should indeed be a little sharper thanks to larger, 325 mm (12.8-inch) Brembo brakes up front, and 314 mm (12.4-inch) out back, as well as stiffer Sachs dampers and standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.
As we’re writing this, we still ignore if the Canadian-spec cars will inherit the cool TRD graphics pictured here on the US model, and Toyota Canada still hasn’t released official pricing or a release date for its latest track toy. We’ll tell you more as we get it.
