Year after year, The Car Guide publishes its Best Buy awards in a wide variety of categories, helping consumers make the right decision when they shop for a new vehicle. Obviously, this includes sport utility vehicles of various sizes, including the compact SUV segment.

This year, the Mazda CX-5 won the Best Buy title in its category. Aside from its exterior and interior design that stands out from those it its competitors, the CX-5 driving experience is once again an element that pleased our team of journalists. In addition, its good fuel economy is also an aspect in favour of the SUV.

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is equipped with a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine that develops 187 horsepower, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. A front-wheel drivetrain is standard, and obviously, all-wheel drive can be added as an option. Mazda’s SUV is now available with a turbocharged, 2.5-litre engine and 227 horsepower, providing it with increased performance, as is a new Signature edition that includes Nappa leather upholstery, black roof trim, LED ambiance lighting, wood accenting and specific 19-inch alloy wheels. The CX-5 is offered from $27,850 before freight and delivery charges.

In second place, we find the Honda CR-V (MSRP from $27,490) that amazes by its comfortable and spacious cockpit, while its fuel economy ranks among the highest in the realm of SUVs. We also appreciate the vehicle’s high resale value and reputation for reliability.

In a tie for third place, we find the Hyundai Tucson (MSRP from $25,599) and the Kia Sportage (MSRP from $25,295), which both offer lots of features for the asking price, a refined drive and a comprehensive warranty.
