BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe to be Revealed in Late June
BMW’s effort to redefine premium luxury with a new generation of full-size vehicles is set to continue with the third member of the 8 Series lineup. At an event called #NextGen in Munich (June 25-27), the German automaker will host the world premiere of the all-new 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe.
Based on the 8 Series Coupe and Cabriolet, and previewed by the M8 Gran Coupe Concept that was introduced last year in Geneva, this four-door coupe will have a sportier, more graceful profile than the 7 Series sedan. The teaser released by BMW shows a long, swooping roofline that ends with a prominent spoiler integrated into the liftgate.
Oh yeah, in case you forgot, BMW’s Gran Coupe models are hatchbacks and this 8 Series variant will directly rival the Audi A7.
Inside, the extended wheelbase and the two extra doors will result in improved access and comfort. Look for more rear-seat space and additional cargo capacity, too.
BMW has yet to provide technical specifications. As for performance, which the company says will be “breathtaking,” expect the same twin-turbocharged V8 engine rated at 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission are inevitable.

The 2020 BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is currently in the final phase of development for series production. It will launch in global markets in September. If BMW uses a pricing strategy similar to the smaller 4 Series, the base MSRP should be nearly identical to that of the two-door coupe.
