When the all-new Jeep Gladiator midsize pickup was introduced last year, FCA talked about eventually adding an EcoDiesel powertrain. We have now received confirmation that it will join the lineup in 2020.

Jim Morrison, head of Jeep in North America, told so while fielding questions at a press conference for the launch of the Wrangler EcoDiesel.

The latter produces 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque from its 3.0-litre diesel V6. It is only available with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Will a six-speed manual gearbox be offered with the Gladiator EcoDiesel? That remains to be seen.

Right now, the Gladiator is available in Canada in three trim levels including Sport S, Overland and Rubicon. Pricing starts at $47,245 and the standard engine is a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6.

It’s too early to know how much the Gladiator EcoDiesel will cost and how well equipped it will be. We’ll keep you posted whenever new information comes up.
