Genesis G70 to Get More Power Soon

Originally introduced for 2019, the Genesis G70 sports sedan is the Korean luxury brand’s youngest and best-selling model. A mid-cycle update will likely occur for the 2021 or 2022 model year and it will include a more powerful base engine, according to new report by Car and Driver.

Hyundai told the website that the new turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine slated for the upcoming Sonata N-Line will also replace the current 2.0-litre turbo in the G70.

This will give the luxury sedan a significant boost in output, more specifically 290 horsepower (+38) and 310 pound-feet of torque (+50), while closing the gap with the optional twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6. The latter produces 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque.

Now, it remains to be seen what will happen with the low-selling six-speed manual gearbox in the G70. The Sonata N-Line will offer a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission only. Its premium cousin may very well follow the same path.

Further details about the refreshed Genesis G70 will become available sometime in 2020, so stay tuned.
