Sensational Ford GT is Even Better for 2020
The last time we wrote about the Ford GT, the Blue Oval brand’s exclusive, high-price supercar, was in July of 2019 during the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England.
That’s when the GT spawned a track-only limited edition called Mk II that raised the performance bar even higher with a 700-horsepower engine.

Today, Ford Performance is announcing various enhancements to the road-going version for the 2020 model year.
It starts with a 3.5-litre EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 engine that now generates 660 horsepower instead of 647 and features a broader torque band. Revised engine calibration plus mechanical upgrades including gallery-cooled pistons and higher-energy ignition coils are also part of the package.
Additional engine cooling and airflow updates include new buttress air ducts designed to increase air flow by 50 percent, while larger intercoolers keep charge air temperatures cooler, preserving peak power for the most strenuous, high-temperature sessions at the track.
As standard equipment, the engine breathes through a premium Akrapovi? titanium exhaust system that is nine pounds lighter. Ford claims it produces a deeply resonant, unmistakable sound emanating from the more powerful EcoBoost engine.
Meanwhile, suspension damping is increased in Track mode to further improve handling and body control, particularly for high-speed “S” turns.
Finally, Ford Performance listened to customers who requested a black pinstripe to divide the distinct blue and orange colors on the Gulf Racing heritage livery, recalling the 1968-69 Le Mans-winning GT40. The optional carbon fibre number switches from “9” on the 2019 model to “6” for 2020, matching that of the historic back-to-back winning car. And for the first time on a heritage model, carbon fibre wheels are available in lieu of aluminum alloy.
Deliveries of the upgraded 2020 Ford GT are ongoing. Production is scheduled to wrap up in 2022.
