Mazda CX-3 Sticks Around for 2021 With Some Updates

Published on August 11, 2020 in News by Guillaume Rivard

While many feared its elimination following the arrival of the CX-30, the little Mazda CX-3 soldiers on. Back for the 2021 model year, it will arrive at Canadian dealers in October.

Don’t expect big changes, though.

First, the AWD option has been dropped from the base GX model. Instead, you need to move up to the mid-level GS to get it. The latter offers a new Custom Appearance Package that includes leatherette upholstery with brown suede inserts on the front seats, dash and door panels, unique 16-inch alloy wheels, black exterior mirrors and an understated black front grille design.

Wireless Apple CarPlay is now available in top-line GT trim, while Eternal Blue has been replaced by Polymetal Grey in the colour selection.

The 2021 Mazda CX-3 continues to be offered with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder Skyactiv-G engine, rated to deliver 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual or automatic transmission handles shifting.

In addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, standard equipment includes automatic-off headlights, G-Vectoring Control Plus, a seven-inch colour touchscreen with Mazda Connect, electronic parking brake with auto-hold feature, push-button start, remote keyless illuminated entry system, as well as the most essential i-Activsense safety features (Smart City Brake Support, Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and a wide-angle rearview camera).

The fully loaded CX-3 GT is even safer with Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart Brake Support Front, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Control System, colour Active Driving Display and Traffic Sign Recognition. Oh, and one last update: pedestrian detection has been enhanced to work at night.

Pricing for the 2021 Mazda CX-3 ranges from $21,300 to $31,100. Similar to the CX-30, there is no 100th Anniversary Edition to choose from.
