The Mazda CX-9 Gets Two New Models for 2021

Mazda has lightly modernized its CX-9 for 2021, and added two special edition models to the lineup.

The new Kuro Edition sits just above the GT version in the range. It stands out thanks to its Polymetal Grey or Jet Black exterior paint, as well as its black mirrors, black grille and 20-inch black metallic alloy wheels.

Opening the door will reveal red leather seating, along with red stitching on the steering wheel and the centre console. This Kuro Edition, whose name translates to “black” in Japanese, comes standard with second-row captain's chairs.

The CX-9 has only been on the market since 2007, but it can still celebrate Mazda’s 100th anniversary. For this celebratory edition, only one body colour is available: Snowflake White Pearl.

Inside, the red carpet matches the leather upholstery. Commemorative badges of the brand's centenary have been added to the body, wheel centre caps, floor mats, front headrests and key fobs. Those who purchase a CX-9 100th Anniversary Edition will receive a scale model of the Mazda R360 upon delivery of their vehicle. Launched in 1960, the R360 is the first passenger car produced by the Japanese manufacturer.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 GS will be offered at a starting price of $39,900. The Kuro Edition is priced at $50,150. To get your hands on the 100th Anniversary Edition at the top of the range, you will have to spend $53,350. Note that the $1950 transport and preparation fee is not included in these prices.

No changes have been made under the hood; the Mazda CX-9 keeps the 2.5 L four-cylinder turbocharged unit. When the tank is filled with 93 octane gasoline, it outputs 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 will hit dealerships next month.
