Mazda CX-5, CX-9 Get Pleasant Updates for 2021.5 Model Year

Mazda’s 2022 models will arrive in late summer or in the fall, but before that the company is making some changes to two of its popular products.

As part of a mid-year update, the 2021.5 CX-5 and CX-9 both get extra tech starting with a standard 10.25-inch centre display featuring the latest Mazda Connect interface. It’s the largest infotainment screen to be equipped in these vehicles, a move that follows a growing number of competitors.

In addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, the systems will be paired with Mazda Connected Services (fall availability), which provide the ability to monitor and control the CX-5 and CX-9 remotely. Through the MyMazda app, customers will be able to use features such as remote engine start/stop, locking/unlocking the doors, and viewing a vehicle health status report. In the larger CX-9, wireless smartphone charging will be available in more trim levels, too.

When it comes to safety, Mazda's i-Activsense suite of driver assistance features will now come standard on all CX-5 models. That means the addition of Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop&Go, Smart Brake Support Front, Pedestrian Detection, Lane-keep Assist System, Lane Departure Warning System, and more.

Next, the mid-level GS trim will offer 19-inch wheels which were previously reserved for more upscale CX-5 models. The unique style of the Kuro Edition, introduced for 2021, carries into the 2021.5 model year and now includes the option of black leather with red stitching in addition to the original Garnet Red leather upholstery.

The 2021.5 Mazda CX-5 and CX-9 will be available in dealers across Canada from June with prices starting at $28,950 and $40,300, respectively—an increase of about $400-$550 depending on the trim level. Of course, all of the changes described above are expected to carry over to the 2022 models.
