Confirmed: 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo to Hit the Market This Winter
Mazda Mexico spilled the beans last week, but as promised the official announcement came today: the sexy CX-30 is getting a turbo engine. And we won’t have to wait very long because it’s coming as early as the 2021 model year.
Following the lead of the Mazda3, which uses the same platform and powertrains including a pair of naturally aspirated four-cylinders rated at 155 and 186 horsepower, the new subcompact crossover will be available with the brand’s increasingly popular turbocharged 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G.
That engine delivers 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque with regular gasoline or an even more impressive 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque with premium (93 octane) fuel. Needless to say these numbers far exceed those of any direct competitor, unless we include the new 301-horsepower MINI Countryman JCW.
With so much gusto, not to mention generous equipment and a refined interior, the Mazda CX-30 Turbo will take on luxury rivals such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Volvo XC40.
Standard content is further highlighted by i-Activ all-wheel drive with off-road traction assist, the i-Activsense suite of safety features (including Smart City Brake Support Reverse with Rear Cross-Traffic Braking), Traffic Sign Recognition and LED headlights with adaptive lighting.
In addition to a "TURBO" badge on the liftgate, the exterior stands out with 18-inch black aluminum alloy wheels, larger tailpipes and gloss black mirror caps.
The 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo is scheduled to go on sale in Canada in January. Pricing starts at $36,250.
