Silent Cat: Jaguar to Become EV-only Brand by 2025

Published on February 15, 2021 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

Jaguar and Land Rover, the two British luxury car brands that have been part of Indian auto group Tata Motors since 2008, are about to completely reinvent themselves—as are a number of other companies.

Electrification will of course be at the core of the strategy. In fact, Jaguar will sell only pure electric vehicles by 2025. The announcement was made on Monday.

At the same time, the brand promises to offer even more beautiful designs, higher quality standards and a more personalized driving experience.

We don’t have many details so far other than all next-generation Jaguar models will be built exclusively on a pure electric architecture. Curiously, the planned Jaguar XJ replacement, which was supposed to become the second EV in the lineup after the I-PACE crossover, has been scrapped.

At Land Rover, a first all-electric model will arrive in 2024. Five others will follow by 2026. It is anticipated that around 60 percent of Land Rovers sold globally will be equipped with zero-emission powertrains by the end of this decade.

Land Rover will use the forthcoming flexible Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) to deliver hybrid and electric variants of existing, conventionally powered models. In addition, it will use the pure Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) to build all-new dedicated EVs.

Neither Jaguar nor Land Rover are expected to close their main factories. However, the companies will substantially reduce and rationalize their non-manufacturing infrastructure, especially in the U.K. They will also benefit from closer collaboration and knowledge-sharing with Tata companies to enhance sustainability and reduce emissions.

Ultimately, Jaguar and Land Rover aim to become a carbon-neutral business across their supply chain, products and operations by 2039.
