Acura Integra to Offer 6-speed Manual Gearbox

The road leading up to the reveal of the all-new Acura Integra sometime in 2022 is full of small announcements, but the latest one has us pretty excited.

In case you didn’t know already, Honda’s luxury brand confirmed in August the return of its iconic compact sports car. More recently, we learned that the car will be a premium five-door hatchback.

Today, Acura provided another key detail that will please sporty drivers: the new Integra will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox. How awesome is that? After all, no other Acura model currently offers a stick shift, instead going with conventional automatic or dual-clutch transmissions only.

Alas, the company is not saying anything else. It’s reasonable to assume said six-speed manual will come from the Honda Civic Type R, adding credibility to the theory that the upcoming Acura Integra will essentially be a Civic Type R with classier looks.

We’re talking about a precise and smooth-shifting transmission with short throws and a progressive clutch. In the words of our esteemed colleague Marc Lachapelle, who had fun on the track with the outgoing Type R not long ago, this unit is pretty much perfect.
