Acura MDX Type S Goes on Sale in January With BMW X5 Pricing
The Acura SUV that’s supposed to seriously challenge the German competitors will begin arriving at dealerships across Canada in January, and we now know how much it will cost.
The new 2022 MDX Type S, remember, is the first SUV to wear the Type S badge. Naturally, pricing reflects the extra level of performance and equipment. It starts at $79,000, plus $2,375 destination.

That’s $100 cheaper than a base 2022 BMW X5, with an additional 20 horsepower. More specifically, the MDX Type S uses a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 355 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 354 pound-feet of torque from 1,400-5,000 rpm.
The performance-tuned 10-speed automatic transmission boasts stronger internals, quicker shifts and rev-matched downshifts, while Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) also gets performance tuning to maximize handling performance.
An active exhaust system, Acura-first air suspension with adjustable ride height and adaptive dampers, exclusive Sport+ and Lift modes, Brembo front brakes featuring 363-mm rotors and four-piston fixed calipers, and 21-inch wheels on performance all-season tires round out the highlights. The MDX Type S visually stands out with a unique diamond grille and rear diffuser.
For $4,000 you can add the Ultra Package, which includes Acura-first massaging front seats, a 25-speaker, 1,000-watt ELS STUDIO 3D Signature Edition premium audio system, head-up display and open-pore wood trim.
The Car Guide has a date with the Acura MDX Type S sometime in the early part of 2022, so don’t miss our review to find out if it’s as good as advertised.
