Volkswagen ID.Buzz to be Officially Revealed This Winter

Just over five years after the debut of the sensational ID.Buzz concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volkswagen is finally gearing up for the official introduction of the fully electric, modern-day Type 2 Microbus.

The event is scheduled for March 9, 2022, VW Chairman Herbert Diess announced on Twitter.

The vehicle in the clip above is still a sketch, but we know that the production model will retain much of the retro styling that had many people falling in love with the original concept. It will likely be more down to earth, mind you.

The Volkswagen ID.Buzz will go on sale in North America sometime in 2023 as a 2024 model. Unlike Europe, we’ll only get the long-wheelbase variant.

The MEB architecture is the same that all ID. models ride on including the ID.4 crossover. Similar to the latter, the production ID.Buzz is expected to offer 201-horsepower RWD and 295-horsepower AWD configurations, with up to 400 kilometres of range.

The dashboard and driver’s area should be roughly the same, too. There will be more space in the rear along with a third row, and apparently you’ll be able to remove the rear seats and create many different interior layouts.

As for pricing, the new van will most certainly be positioned above the ID.4, which carries a base MSRP of $44,995 .
