2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV: Five Things to Know

Forget the Bolt EUV, a real electric crossover is coming at Chevrolet. The all-new 2024 Blazer EV, which was unveiled this week in Los Angeles, aims to take on the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Kia EV6, Tesla Model Y and the like when it goes on sale next summer.

It will be produced at GM’s Ramos Arizpe, Mexico production facility, which manufactures the regular Blazer. Here are five important things you should know about the Blazer EV…

Ultium Platform and Battery

Unlike the Bolt EUV, the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV is based on GM’s Ultium platform, which also underpins the Cadillac LYRIQ and GMC Hummer EV. It boasts more sophisticated technology, and while battery size is not specified at this point, the company did mention that maximum range will amount to an estimated 515 km with select models. Also, look for 11.5kW Level 2 (AC) charging and standard DC public fast-charging capability of up to 190kW.

Four Models

Four different trim levels are part of the lineup—1LT, 2LT, RS and Chevrolet’s first-ever electric SS performance model—along with available front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations to offer customers more choices.

Heck, there will even be pursuit-rated Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) models for police fleet applications, as we covered in a previous story.

One Word: WOW

If you like power and speed, you should definitely be excited about the Blazer EV SS, whose unique WOW (Wide open Watts) mode enables up to 557 horsepower and up to 648 lb-ft. of torque, resulting in 0-96 km/h sprints in less than four seconds, Chevy claims. WOW is like the Hummer EV’s WTF (Watts to Freedom), and it makes the Blazer EV SS about as quick as a Mustang Mach-E GT Performance.

State-of-the-Art Cabin

The gasoline-powered 2023 Blazer benefits from a nice update both inside and out, but the 2024 Blazer EV wins the comparison hands down. For example, instead of a 10-inch touchscreen in the middle of the dashboard, you’ll find a massive 17.7-inch display. GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology is available, not to mention striking Adrenaline Red sueded microfiber seating on the SS.

Interestingly, there’s no button to push to start the vehicle. With hands-free start, the driver simply pushes the brake pedal after closing the door and the Blazer EV is ready to drive.

How Much?

The Chevrolet Blazer EV 1LT will be the most affordable model you can buy with a base MSRP of $51,998. However, it will also be the last one to hit the market, more specifically in the first quarter of 2024. Coming in the summer of 2023, 2LT and RS models will be priced from $56,598 and $61,298, respectively. As for the sporty SS, it will follow later in 2023 and carry a price tag of $80,998. Reservations have already begun.
