Cheaper Volkswagen ID.4 With Smaller Battery Headed to Canada

Published on August 4, 2022 in Electric by Guillaume Rivard

The good news keep coming for those wanting a piece of Volkswagen’s new electric crossover. Not only did the ID.4 recently enter production in the U.S. to help speed up deliveries across North America, but a new entry-level variant is joining the Canadian lineup for 2023.

Sometime in the fourth quarter of this year, the automaker will start building single-motor, RWD-equipped ID.4 models with a smaller 62kWh battery. Pricing is set at $43,995 plus $1,950 freight and PDI.

That’s a grand cheaper than a comparable 2022 model with the 82kWh battery. That one will cost $47,995 for 2023. In dual-motor AWD configuration, customers will now have to spend $52,995.

Natural Resources Canada has yet to post the official range for the base ID.4 with the smaller battery. However, we know that the 2023 ID.4 Pro AWD gets a boost from 394 km to 410 km.

Tweaks and Upgraded Content

For 2023, every Volkswagen ID.4 sees minor styling revisions such as gloss black highlights on the front bumper and three new available wheel designs, including two different 20-inch choices. Inside, a 12-inch infotainment display now comes standard, the new seating surfaces combine recycled fabric centre sections with leatherette side bolsters, and new interior colours and combinations are available.

On the safety front, the vehicle’s Forward Collision Warning system with Autonomous Emergency Braking now includes cyclist detection. Park Assist Plus with Memory Parking is added along with driver-initiated lane change functionality as an enhancement of Travel Assist.

The first 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 models for Canada will arrive at dealerships this fall.
