GM Reportedly Mulling Smaller Hummer EV
General Motors made a pretty big statement by resurrecting the iconic but gas-guzzling Hummer in the form of a fully electric pickup and SUV (the latter will enter production early in 2023). In typical Hummer fashion, however, it still has outrageous size and weight, not to mention a hefty price.
According to Bloomberg, which cites people familiar with the automaker’s plans, the new GMC Hummer EV lineup could expand in the next few years with the addition of a midsize model.

The vehicle is still a concept in GM's California design studio, but it appears it has a pretty good chance of getting the green light, those same sources said.
To be clear, we’re talking about a smaller Hummer EV and not the Sierra EV pickup that will be revealed later today.
It makes sense that GM executives want to build on the name and success of the Hummer EV. Demand is so strong that the company had to stop taking reservations last month after getting over 90,000. Fewer than 800 units have been delivered to U.S. customers as of September 30.
Now, why would another Hummer model come in at a time when supply is so limited? That’s a good question. Remember, GM plans to invest as much as $35 billion USD to launch 30 new EVs globally by 2025, at which point 40 percent of its North American lineup will be electric. Expect production capacity to significantly ramp up by mid-decade.
A midsize Hummer EV would more directly challenge rivals like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T/R1S while helping GM possibly launch the Hummer brand in Europe, Bloomberg rightfully noted. Of course, it’s way too early to get details about power, range, towing capacity and other specs, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information as it becomes available in the coming months.
