The Chevrolet Silverado HD ZR2 was presented to the public last April. Now it's GMC's turn to unveil its off-road heavy-duty hauler, the 2024 Sierra HD AT4X. Like the Sierra 1500 AT4X and Canyon AT4X, it's full of off-road bits, and according to Duncan Aldred, global vice president of Buick and GMC, its goal is to allow drivers to tow up to 18,500 pounds off-road while enjoying a certain level of luxury and equipment.

Equipped to Work Hard and Go Far

The GMC Sierra HD is an undeniably tough workhorse. With this new iteration, GMC wants to allow consumers to work just as hard and continue to do so even off paved roads. To do so, the AT4X version gets a special treatment, with 38 mm raised suspension, Multimatic DSSV shocks, an electronically lockable rear differential, 35-inch Goodyear off-road tires, unique suspension arms and knuckles, a larger transfer case and aluminum skid plates.

This new version of the Sierra HD also benefits from an off-road driving mode that makes a variety of adjustments, including transmission tweaks, to enhance performance on unpaved surfaces. Consumers can choose between the 6.6-litre V8 gasoline and diesel engines. The diesel mill produces 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. In both cases, you get a 10-speed automatic transmission.

An Even More Extreme AEV Model

In partnership with American Expedition Vehicles, GMC has also added an even more extreme model to the lineup. This one features steel bumpers, a front winch, steel skid plates and unique 18-inch wheels.

The GMC Sierra HD AT4X is expected to arrive at dealerships this fall. The price range will be disclosed closer to the release date.
