New Ram ProMaster EV Arrives With Ford-Beating Range

Published on January 16, 2024 in New Models by Guillaume Rivard

Ram today unveiled what will become its first fully electric vehicle on the market. The 2024 ProMaster EV full-size van will be available to order in Canada later this year with a choice of two configurations including delivery and cargo.

Maximum payload is rated at 2,030 lbs and 3,020 lbs, respectively. The former is an extended, super-high-roof model with best-in-class interior cargo height of 86 inches, while the latter offers either a 12-foot cargo length or an extended 13-foot cargo length.

Cargo volume is unchanged from comparable, ICE-powered ProMaster vans. By the way, the architecture is the same, but designed specifically for electrification. Ram claims the EV variant features best-in-class 14,838 litres of maximum cargo space and 75.6 inches of maximum cargo width.

Power and Range

Available with front-wheel drive only, the Ram ProMaster EV boasts a single electric motor producing 268 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque. It draws energy from a 110kWh battery and, critically, achieves a range of up to 261 km in city driving, beating the Ford E-Transit’s 203 km.

The ProMaster EV comes with Level 3 DC fast charging options of 50 kW, 85 kW, 125 kW and 150 kW. A wall box charger (Level 2) with up to 11 kW is available. The charge port illuminates while the vehicle is charging, and an audible sound alert to confirm the connection.

On the 10.1-inch touchscreen powered by Uconnect 5, drivers can easily monitor the battery’s status and locate charging stations nearby.

Technology and Safety

The delivery model offers a pocket door on the right side and a large roll-up door made of anodized aluminum in the rear. It is also packed with technology. The standard Telematics Module enables nearly 50 functions including firmware over-the-air updates, a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and apps over-the-air. Alexa home-to-truck and truck-to-home functionality includes an in-vehicle virtual assistant, as well.

The ProMaster EV includes the most standard safety and security features ever offered on Ram’s full-size commercial van. Front and Rear Park Sense with full stop, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning, Crosswind Assist, Post-Collision Braking, Drowsiness Detection, Traffic Sign Information and more can be found on every unit.

Optional features include Intelligent Speed Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, hands-on-wheel Active Drive Assist and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Let’s not forget the digital rear-view camera or the 360-degree Surround View camera making parking manoeuvres much easier and safer.

Pricing for the 2024 Ram ProMaster EV will be announced at a later date. We’re also waiting for more details about the Canadian launch and timing of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV electric pickup.
