Last December, The Car Guide journalist Julien Amado gave us his riding impressions from the passenger seat of an electric Macan prototype in Milan, Italy. In January, the Stuttgart-based automaker unveiled the production model of this electric SUV. Late last week, the electric Macan made its first public appearance at the New York Auto Show, and our team was there to take a closer look.

Available in Two High-Performance Versions

Sporting a visibly bolder exterior than its internal combustion counterpart, the Macan Electric will begin its career here with two variants: the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. The former is equipped with two motors, one on the front axle and the other on the rear axle. Together, they deliver 402 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. The Macan Turbo uses the same twin-motor configuration to deliver 630 hp and 833 lb-ft. This range-topping variant is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in only 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 260 km/h! The Macan is also available with rear-wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to pivot over 5 degrees.

Electrifying Recharging Capability

Based on the PPE (Premium Platform Electric), the Macan is armed with a battery 100 kWh (95 kWh usable) battery. The 800-volt architecture enables a maximum recharging capacity of 270 kW under ideal conditions at a DC fast-charging station, which can bump the charge level from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes.

The interior of the electric Macan is unsurprisingly highly digital. Its instrument cluster spans over 12.6 inches, while the infotainment system screen reaches 10.9 inches. An optional 10.9-inch screen for the front passenger is also available.

The Porsche Macan is a very popular product within the prestigious brand, with over 800,000 units sold since its introduction, and the Electric variant is available for reservation now at $99,300 for the Macan 4 and $125,300 for the Macan Turbo.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2024. But The Car Guide will be flying to Nice, France next month to put it to the test. Stay tuned!
