Manitoba to Offer $4,000 EV Incentive, Extend Gas Tax Break
Manitoba’s 2024 budget tabled yesterday by Finance Minister Adrien Sala will make the province the latest to offer incentives to EV customers.
Eligible new electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, meaning those with an MSRP below $70,000, will be discounted by up to $4,000. Used EVs and PHEVs that are no more than four years old will get up to $2,500 off. Even better, the program is retroactive to August 1, 2023.

Adding the federal rebate worth up to $5,000, Manitobans can save as much as $9,000 on a new EV.
“Many Manitoba families want to make the switch to an electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) for their family vehicle, but the sticker shock can make this an unrealistic dream,” the budget reads.
In a brief post on X, the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association lauded the new incentives for “addressing one of the main barriers to EV adoption,” particularly at a time when the country seems to be out of early adopters.
According to Manitoba Public Insurance, less than 2 percent of all vehicles registered in Manitoba were EVs in 2023. The national average is 10.8 percent.
Also announced as part of the 2024 budget is a three-month extension of Manitoba’s gas tax break. The $0.14/L tax, which was suspended on January 1, will now be reinstated October 1 instead of this summer.
