Next year, the Californian manufacturer of the popular all-electric Tesla Model S will bring a crossover type vehicle to fruition that would have a similar performance to the sedan.

The vehicle will be called the Tesla Model X, a model whose production lines should be very similar to the concept unveiled last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It is said that the production model would retain the vertically opening gull-wing doors of the concept.

Tesla Model X also inherits the dashboard of the Model S sedan, including, of course, the imposing center console with its massive LCD monitor.

The Model X goes from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds, with a range of around 425 km and its electric motor can be had with a battery of 60 or 85 kWh, depending on how much range you need. It will also possible to opt for a Tesla Model X all-wheel drive, which will be powered with two electric motors.

Production is slated to begin by the end of 2014 and ramping up to full output by 2015 with about 10,000-15,000 vehicles per year.
