All-New 2020 Lincoln Corsair Introduced as MKC Successor

Lincoln made an important reveal at the 2019 New York Auto Show yesterday. Ford’s luxury brand wanted a more modern and more attractive product to replace the low-selling MKC compact SUV, so here comes the all-new 2020 Lincoln Corsair.

The standard engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. There’s also a 2.3-litre unit rated at 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet. Both are turbocharged and mated to an all-wheel drive system, by the way. The lone transmission choice is an eight-speed automatic.

Inside, you’ll find a SYNC 3 infotainment system with an eight-inch display. The five-passenger Corsair offers three new interior colours compared to the MKC, including Beyond Blue, Cashew and Medium Slate.

Thanks to a new feature called Phone As A Key, drivers can use the Lincoln Way app to lock or unlock the doors, open the liftgate and start the vehicle.

The new Corsair, like all Lincoln vehicles, comes standard with a suite of driver-assist features known as Lincoln Co-Pilot360. It provides Pre-Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking and Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Information System, a Lane-Keeping System, rear backup camera and auto high-beam lighting.

To replace the conventional electronic alerts, six unique symphonic chimes were recorded by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, adding a new layer to the calming soundscape of the cabin.

The 2020 Lincoln Corsair will be manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky, arriving in dealerships this fall. Pricing has not been specified, of course, but it should be similar to the outgoing MKC, which starts at $44,150 before freight and delivery charges.

And in case you’re wondering, the Corsair nameplate was originally used by Edsel in 1958-1959. It reappeared on Ford vehicles sold in the U.K. during the ‘60s and others sold in Australia during the ‘90s.
