The all-new Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring made its debut on Wednesday at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show. It is the plug-in hybrid variant of the luxury brand’s next-generation compact SUV.

It follows in the footsteps of the Aviator Grand Touring introduced earlier this year.

The Corsair Grand Touring features a 2.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor with a combined output of 266 horsepower. Torque is not specified. A PowerSplit electric continuously variable transmission completes the powertrain.

This configuration of hybrid technology paired with electric all-wheel drive has a targeted EV range of more than 40 kilometres, according to EPA estimates. Official fuel economy ratings have yet to be announced.

It’s safe to assume there are a lot of similarities with the upcoming plug-in hybrid variant of the 2020 Ford Escape.

Furthermore, Lincoln drive modes allow drivers to customize the Corsair Grand Touring experience. Standard modes include Normal, Conserve, Excite, Slippery and Deep Conditions. Two additional modes are specially tuned and calibrated to enhance the drive: Preserve EV charges and saves battery power for a later time, while Pure EV isdesigned to keep the vehicle in all-electric mode in many conditions.

When it comes to safety, standard Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Detection with Cross-Traffic Alert, a Lane-Keeping System, a rear-view camera and auto high beam headlamps. An available upgrade, Lincoln Co-Pilot360 Plus, adds Adaptive Cruise Control with Traffic Jam Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and Active Park Assist Plus.

The Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring will be built at the Louisville assembly plant in Kentucky. It will be available next summer.
