2020 Honda Civic Si Receives an Update, Too

A week after announcing changes to the Civic Hatchback, Honda is back in the news with the updated 2020 Civic Si Sedan and Si Coupe, which will go on sale across Canada next month.

Both models get exterior styling enhancements including redesigned lower bumper fog light housings, which now feature gloss black surrounding trim and a body-coloured crossbar. The Honda-signature "wing" grille crossbar is also updated and the headlights are now multi-element LED lamps with a wider and longer light beam. The LED fog lights are new, as well.

In the rear, the Civic Si Sedan sports a new lower bumper treatment to match the new front design, with gloss black surrounding trim and a body-coloured crossbar. All Civic Si models now ride on new matte black 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-season performance tires, with summer tires available as a factory option.

Inside, you’ll find updated sport seats with red accents on the seat bottom and seat back, plus new red trim highlighting the instrument panel. The changes compliment interior upgrades made last year that included an updated Display Audio system with physical buttons and a volume knob, bigger cupholders and more.

As far as the powertrain and chassis are concerned, the only update to the 2020 Honda Civic Si Sedan and Si Coupe is a six-percent shorter final-drive ratio that results in improved acceleration feel. The 205-horsepower, turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, six-speed manual transmission, helical limited-slip differential and adjustable two-mode adaptive damper system all return unchanged.

For 2020, both Civic Si models include the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assist systems as standard equipment, including new automatic high beams. What isn’t necessarily a good addition is Active Sound Control, which uses the speakers to artificially enhance the engine sound during aggressive driving.

Pricing and equipment details as well as fuel economy ratings specific to the Canadian market have yet to be announced. The outgoing Civic Sedan Si and Civic Coupe Si started at $29,090 and $29,490, respectively, so it’s possible they will top the $30k mark.

Production will continue in Alliston, Ontario except for the turbocharged engine which is exclusively built in Ohio.
