Refreshed 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Finally Shows Its Face
The Volkswagen Tiguan is the best-selling vehicle in the lineup, and yet the German automaker waited four years to perform a mid-cycle update for North America. Slated to launch this fall as a 2022 model, the refreshed Tiguan will have its work cut out for it because the competition is only getting fiercer.
Today we get a series of images that show some of the various changes that were made to this compact SUV. Keep in mind that what you’re seeing here is a unit equipped with the popular R-Line package.

First, the front bumper and grille each sport a fresh look, the latter crowned by Volkswagen’s new logo and connecting with the daytime running lamps through a light strip. The redesigned DRLs and headlamps are much more attractive now. Overall, the 2022 Tiguan has a more dynamic face, and nobody’s going to complain about that.
The side profile is essentially unchanged except for a revised metallic trim piece linking the front fenders and doors. Out back, the taillamps and bumper have been tweaked slightly. “TIGUAN” lettering can now be found in the middle of the liftgate, similar to the brand’s latest SUVs including the all-new Taos. A refreshed “4MOTION” badge is also included.
There are new wheel designs and body colours to choose from, as well.
Inside, Volkswagen will include the latest generation of its infotainment system along with an available 480W premium Fender audio system. Some of the controls are revised and 15-colour ambient lighting completes the cabin.
There are no details about the powertrain, but we can assume the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine will continue to deliver 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Volkswagen Canada’s public relations manager, Thomas Tetzlaff, confirmed to The Car Guide that the mighty 315-horsepower Tiguan R sold in Europe is not part of the plan for North America right now.
Full information about the Canadian-spec trim levels and pricing will be announced closer to the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan’s arrival this fall. Stay tuned.
