New Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coming With 4 Cylinders and RWD
The new, second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT goes on sale in Canada this spring as a 2024 model, offering a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine that delivers 469 horsepower or 577 horsepower depending on the model. Months later (in early 2025, we believe), customers will also be able to choose a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
What? Four cylinders only? That’s right. But make no mistake: the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 43 will be nothing to scoff at with output and torque amounting to 416 horsepower and 369 lb-ft, respectively. Furthermore, an electric exhaust gas turbocharger system derived from Formula 1 will ensure ultra-quick throttle response across the entire rpm range.

Unlike its V8-powered siblings, however, the entry-level GT doesn’t benefit from the automaker’s 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system as power is sent to the rear wheels only. Expect 0-100 km/h sprints in 4.6 seconds. The nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission is the same, complete with a launch control feature called RACE START.
Now, we’d like to insist on a few technical innovations at work on the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 43. For one, the AIRPANEL active air control system keeps the louvers in the front air intake closed to reduce drag in normal conditions. When certain temperatures have been reached on predefined components and the demand for cooling air is particularly high, the louvers open and allow maximum cooling airflow to the heat exchangers.
Another active component is the retractable rear spoiler, which changes its position depending on the driving situation. From speeds of 80 km/h, the spoiler assumes five different angular positions to either optimize handling stability or reduce drag.
Anchoring the car is an AMG steel spring suspension with high-performance aluminum shock absorbers and lightweight coil springs. Optionally, the latest generation of AMG RIDE CONTROL adaptive damping is available, with tuning that can be adjusted in three stages independently of the drive mode.
Aesthetically, the Mercedes-AMG GT 43 stands out from other GT models with a newly designed front fascia, narrower fenders and round double tailpipes. What’s more, 19-inch AMG alloy wheels are fitted as standard. Larger wheels up to 21 inches can be specified, as well.
As for the cabin, highlights include a portrait-style, 11.9-inch touchscreen and AMG sport seats in Nappa leather. The latter can be replaced by race-type buckets featuring integrated headrests and extra lateral support.
Canadian pricing for the new 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT is still not out yet, and we’re even farther away from finding out about the 2025 GT 43. Once again, the main competition will come from the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin Vantage, none of which is available with four cylinders.
