Which car brands and models will prove the most reliable in 2023? You’d need a crystal ball to find out.

The next best thing is probably Consumer Reports. The reputable magazine has just published its latest annual auto reliability rankings, which reflect predicted reliability based on comprehensive vehicle testing and owner surveys that address 17 trouble areas, including engine, transmission, in-car electronics and more. A score is calculated on a 0-to-100-point scale.

For 2023, Toyota (72), Lexus (72), BMW (65), Mazda (65), Honda (62), Audi (60), Subaru (59), Acura (57), Kia (54), Lincoln (54) and Buick (54) make up the top 10 brands. However, Consumer Reports has insufficient data or the manufacturer has too few models for them to rank Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Infiniti, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, MINI, Mitsubishi, Polestar, Porsche and Rivian.

With so many absentees, are these reliability rankings even reliable? That’s a debate for another day. Here, now, are the top 10 most reliable 2023 models according to Consumer Reports. The third-place car might surprise you.
