BMW Launches the Vision GT

The Bavarian automaker BMW just unleashed its latest racecar, the Vision GT. It will be driven on some of the world’s best tracks in the coming months.

Usually, the M division is charged with creating new race vehicles for BMW. This time however, the job landed on the desk of Karim Habib and his designer team. They were tasked with creating a vehicle that could beat the best of the best. The result is not only aggressive; it also boasts the very latest in aerodynamics advancements.

With generous application of carbon fiber, the Vision GT only weighs 1180 kg. That weight is perfectly split (50:50) between the two axles. A lot of aero elements, like the front and rear splitters, make sure the car is firmly planted on the ground at all times.

Power comes from a 3L inline-6, force-fed by two M TwinPower turbos. This arrangement produces 549 HP and 501 lb-ft of torque. All this power is then sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox.

But the most amazing thing about this car is that it is not aimed at professional racing teams. It’s not made for rich playboys looking for a fast track toy. It is intended for regular people, like you and me… assuming you have a PlayStation 3!

The BMW Vision GT was created exclusively for Gran Turismo 6, and is available for download right now. The Vision program, which also gave us the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo, asked the best automotive designers to dream up a car that would represent the future of their brands.

So if you want to test-drive the latest BMW racing car, sit in front of the TV this evening, and game away!
