2019 Porsche 718 T: More than Ever, it’s All About the Drive
As Porsche has the habit of doing, it will be adding yet another variant of its 718 line, which includes the Cayman coupe and Boxster cabriolet. After all, there are only three 718 trims currently available, but more than 20 versions of the Porsche 911 and 18 of the Porsche Panamera. Something clearly had to be done.
The 718 T will be added to the lineup, which promises to provide “driving pleasure in its purest form.” It will be equipped with the 718’s turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four that develops 300 horsepower as well as 280 pound-feet of torque from 2150 rpm, connected to the standard six-speed manual transmission or the optional dual-clutch, PDK automated gearbox. According to the automaker, the 718 T can blast from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, or 4.7 when equipped with the PDK. Top speed is pegged at 275 km/h.

Also included with the 2019 Porsche 718 T are titanium grey 20-inch alloy wheels, grey mirror caps, the Porsche Active Suspension Management system with a chassis lowered by 20 millimetres, a short shifter with red numbering as well as the Sport Chrono Package. The T also sheds some unessential features to keep weight down and put the emphasis on the drive, with door pulls instead of conventional inside door handles, sport seats with only two-way power adjustments and black Sport-Tex upholstery accenting as well as the removal of the Porsche Communication Management system. However, the latter can be added back in as an option.
Aside from the 718 T lettering on the doors and in the cockpit, this variant of the sports car can be identified by its central exhaust system with black chrome tailpipes. Nine paint colours will be offered, including Lava Orange and Miami Blue as special orders—special meaning more expensive.
Pricing for the Canadian market hasn’t yet been announced, but the European press release specifies that the 718 Cayman T and 718 Boxster T will be positioned between the base and S trims. However, the 718 T will cost less than a base Porsche 718 optioned up with similar features like the bigger wheels and PASM.
