High-price Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon Returns

You can always count on Jeep to offer multiple variants and special editions of its SUVs. Just like it did in the past, the company is now expanding the next-generation (JL) Wrangler lineup with the addition of a Rubicon Recon model that stands out with premium features and pricing.

“We are excited to bring the Wrangler Rubicon Recon model back to the Jeep lineup as it represents the ultimate combination of Rubicon off-road 4x4 capability with a unique appearance package that will resonate with our most diehard off-road enthusiasts,” said Jim Morrison, head of the Jeep brand in North America.

First, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon gets heavy-duty rock rails, steel bumpers with bumper loops, LED headlights and taillights, a gloss black grille, Rubicon gray grille throats and headlamp inserts, plus new 17-inch black aluminum wheels. The front fenders sport a “Recon” badge and a matte black vent decal that matches the matte black hood stripe. Ten body colours are available including the handsome Sting-Grey you see above.

Inside the cabin, the seats incorporate red safety belts and PUR-wrapped mid bolsters with red accent stitching. There’s also a Jeep trail bag containing a number of handy accessories for off-road excursions.

For maximum capability, the Wrangler Rubicon Recon uses next-generation Dana 44 heavy-duty axles, enhanced off-road rock rails and the Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. Jeep also includes electric locking differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar and 33-inch Falken Wildpeak tires designed for muddy and other challenging conditions.

As for the powertrain, there seems to be only one way to go and that’s the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. If you prefer the 3.6-litre V6 and six-speed manual gearbox, you’ll have to purchase a regular Rubicon.

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon will arrive in Canadian showrooms by the end of winter. Prepare to spend big money because pricing starts at $55,535 for the two-door model and $57,935 for the four-door Unlimited version.
